Playing roulette at the casino is fairly simple and not too daunting for the first time player unlike some other games. At most casinos there will usually be a number of different roulette tables. There will often be an electronic board by each table with a series of numbers on it. This is called the “tote board” and displays the last twenty numbers which have come up on that particular table.

The first thing to look for will be the minimum bet ranging anywhere from about £1 to £100. This is the least amount you are allowed to lay on any single bet at the table. When you have found a minimum you are comfortable with find a seat and sit down. If there are no seats it’s quite normal to stand behind someone and reach over to the table to place your bets.

If you’re are in the Europe you play the game with normal casino chips, you can buy these from the cashiers desk or simply lay some cash on the roulette table and tell the croupier the denomination of chips you require. It’s essential you keep an eye on your bets as it can be difficult to distinguish who’s bet is who’s. In the US there is a different system at the roulette table. Instead of using regular casino chips each player is given different coloured chips. These chips can only be used at the roulette table and must be bought from the croupier with either cash or regular chips. When you have finished playing at the table you can swap any unused chips for regular ones. A player may play at the table with regular chips but only one player is able to do this at a time to avoid confusion.

Once the game begins you must place your chips on the table corresponding to which bet you would like to make. This is explained in the roulette rules section. The croupier will start the ball spinning round the wheelhead and during this time you are still allowed to lay bets if you want. As the ball begins to slow down the croupier will call out “no more bets” and from this point on you are not able to place a bet until the next round of bets starts.

When the ball has fallen into one of the ball pockets the croupier will shout out the winning number then place a marker on the betting layout on whichever number came up. The croupier will then collect up all the losing bets from the table. In the US they will do this with their hands and in Europe this will be done with a rake. Once all the losing bets have been collected the croupier will then payout the winning bets by placing the appropriate number of chips next to the winning chips. You are then able to collect your winnings. Once this has finished betting commences prior to the next spin.
