Form

When looking at a horses form you want to try and find a horse who is reaching peak form. What this means is a horse who is steadily improving so that they are reaching their full potential (peak form). A horses ' trainer will try and get a horse to steadily improve throughout the season so that it reaches peak form for the big races. If when studying the form you see a horse has steadily improved in its ' first three races of the season. There is a good chance this horse will continue its ' steady improvement in the next race.

For example if you find two horses running in a race and you notice that they have run together before and finished close, and after studying the form of both horses you notice that one seems to be steadily improving. Whilst the other horses performances are deteriorating. The chances are that the horse whose form is improving will beat the horse whose form is deteriorating.

You have to be aware that a horses form can bring up some red herrings. Sometimes a horse for some reason can run the race of their lives one day and never before or after repeat such a performance. There could be a number of reasons why this happens, training perhaps or possibly just an unpredictable horse that only fancies it very occasionally. Whatever the reason be wary of a horse who in its previous race ran an absolute stormer, but prior to that had shown absolutely no potential whatsoever. Try to pick horses who have shown they can perform on more than one occasion.

Another important thing to consider is how recently they have shown their form. Often horses will perform fantastically one season but not the next. Early on in a season you will not have much information about how the horses have run recently. Most of the information will have come from the season before. As the season progresses there will be much more information available to you relating to how a horse has performed recently Because of this it is wise to bet more late on in the season as it will be easier to pick winners as you will be in possession of more reliable information.

Unfortunately horse races are not all alike. They are run over different distances, on different courses with horses carrying different amounts of weight. So basing a horse picking strategy on form alone is not sufficient and if you want to have the edge on the thousands of other gamblers who only use form in their predictions then you really need to take into account a number of other factors when choosing which horse you bet on.
