There are many different ways to bet on Horse Racing the majority are listed in this section. Inside the brackets shows which countries you are able to make the bet. Not all bets can necessarily be made everywhere you go to gamble. First we'll deal with simple bets.
Simple Bets:
Win Bet or Win Single (UK and US)
The simplest of all bets, you are betting on your horse to win the race if it does you get a payout at the winning odds. For example if you bet 10 pounds and the horses odds are 5/1 you receive 5x10=50 plus your stake of 10 pounds back. Therefore you get 60 pounds.
Place Bet (US)
With a place bet you are betting that your horse finishes first or second. To work out how much you win if it does is quite complicated. The amount you win for a 2 dollar bet will be shown on the tote board at the track.
Place Bet (UK)
With a place bet in the UK you are betting that your horses finish in a place. The amount of places differs depending on the race and the amount you receive is also affected by this. The table below shows how.
Show Bet (US)
The same as a place bet, but you are betting that your horse finishes first, second or third.
Each-Way Bet (UK)
An each-way bet is one in which you are betting half your money on a horse to win and half on it to place. Therefore it is a combination of a win bet and a place bet.
For example if you bet a total of 20 pounds on a horse at 5/1 in a race with 10 horses and the horse wins you get 10x5=50 plus your 10 pound stake and 10x5x1/5=10 plus the other 10 pound stake. Meaning the total received back will be 80 pounds. If it finishes 2 nd or 3 rd you will get back 20 pounds as the win portion of the bet will have lost.
