When you go to the casino and play for the first time it can be quite a daunting experience so it's best to know what to expect before you get here. Procedures may be a little different depending where you play. Here's what usually happens.
When you get to the casino there will usually
be quite a few blackjack tables to choose from.
Somewhere near each table will be some indication
of what the minimum bet is. For example £5.
This is the minimum amount you can bet on any
one hand. Some tables will also have a maximum
bet. Make sure that you are aware of all the rules
before you start betting. Preferably telephone
the casino before you visit so you can work out
what the optimum playing method is before you
arrive.
The blackjack table will look something like this.

It is a fairly simple design and it will curve around the dealer and there will usually be between five and seven spots to play at with chairs behind each. You then take a seat at one of the playing spots. Play will start from the dealers left but it makes no difference where you sit.
You are usually able to give the dealer some cash and they will exchange this for some chips. The cash you give them will then be placed in the money slot which is a hole in the table that they will cram your notes into. When changing your money into chips do not place it in the betting spot and leave it as some casinos allow you to bet with cash and you may end up betting all your money on one hand.
At the start of the game the dealer will shuffle
up to eight packs of cards and then ask one player
to cut the pack in two. This player then inserts
a plastic card into the pack. The cards situated
below the plastic card will not be used.
Each player is then required to place their bet on the table. The dealer then "burns" (discards) the top card and begins dealing to each player starting from his left and the game commences.
The game is played mostly using hand signals. This is so the eye in the sky can work out what is happening without having to hear what is going on. If you want to "hit" you should scratch the table back and forth so the dealers sees it. If you want to "stand" you wave your hand face down just above your cards.
