The advantage a player can gain using the High-Low method of counting can be a very successful method of gaining an edge over the casino when playing in one or two deck games. Unfortunately when that increases to more decks a more advanced count needs to be employed in order to shift the odds further in your favour.
Professional card counters realised that the High-Low
method was too simplistic. So using statistics,
a more complicated way of counting was devised
to increase the chance of a player winning. If
you are planning on playing blackjack for fun
with small bets then it is probably not worth
learning a different way of counting. If, however,
you really are determined to earn money from playing
blackjack then you really have to learn this more
advanced counting strategy. Unless you are able
to consistently find games played with one or
two decks but these days that is unlikely.
Advanced Card Count
This method of card counting uses the same principles
as the High-Low count but the numbers assigned
to each card are as follow.
2 = +1
3 = +1
4 = +2
5 = +2
6 = +1
7 = +1
8 = 0
9 = 0
10 = -2
J = -2
Q = -2
K = -2
A = 0
The count works in exactly the same way as the
High-Low count, you just add up the numbers of
each card as you go along and the higher the positive
count the more the cards are in your favour. Learning
this method is not easy and will require a lot
of practice. To learn it, use the same method
as used to learn the High-Low count. The quicker
you can count a pack of cards out at home the
better you will be able to cope with doing it
in the casino. Counting in the casino can be tricky
as there are so many more distractions than at
home, as you are surrounded by noise and there
are a lot of different things going on around
you. When you have practiced enough it will become
second nature and this will cease to be a problem.
